Waaaay back in the early 90s the architect for my house made a 3D illustrated walk through of the house on CD - before it was built. Then in the late 90s I stitched together a 3D rotational/zoom in various resolution for high value art, i.e. Northwest Indigenous Art, site.

Almost two decades later I tripped over Matterport’s 3D efforts, downloaded a free dataset to play with, got distracted albeit always intending to to dig it out again...

Then Hacker News brought them back to my isolated craving distraction self and WOW! simply fabulous stuff they have done and are sharing. I know what I’m doing for much of May :)

Take a look:

* Tomb of Queen Meresankh III [my.matterport.com] by Giza Project of Harvard University.

This is basically the same as Google Street View but inside a pyramid, nice. But it requires quite a bit of computational power. My computer was struggling at some points.

Wow. But goodness, how it reminds me of certain games my son played as a teenager.
