Google has said its employees are banned from using Zoom, citing security concerns, and on Google-owned machines Zoom would no longer work.
“We have long had a policy of not allowing employees to use unapproved apps for work that are outside of our corporate network,” Google spokesperson Jose Castaneda tells The Verge. “Recently, our security team informed employees using Zoom Desktop Client that it will no longer run on corporate computers as it does not meet our security standards for apps used by our employees. Employees who have been using Zoom to stay in touch with family and friends can continue to do so through a web browser or via mobile.”

Makes you want to stick to two tin cans and a string. But seriously, and forgive my ignorance on this, when did Zoom become so popular? It seems as if one day they were not there and next day they were. But then again, I do not use any type of teleconferencing so I really was not paying attention.

when did Zoom become so popular

When people were asked to stay at home, or were locked down, Zoom and others suddenly picked up popularity.

I had never heard of Zoom before January but then often on the news media people were accessing Zoom for multi participant events and the media were mentioning Zoom. Since then it seems to have only grown in popularity. But as I understand it - it isn't that secure.
