Check out this [oxymoronlist.com] page for a list of oxymorons. They also have a top 20 list. Number one there:

Microsoft Works

Hmm, not sure you'll make many friends with that comment ;).

I'm not sure why Swiss Army is supposed to be an oxymoron, though.

They have "United Nations", but not "United Kingdom" or "United States".

Monkscuba in "Amazing Thailand" (and it is)

I for one think that a tan is healthy. The sun does a pile of good for your skin and releases some most important vitamins. So, why is "healthy tan" number 2? Maybe it should say "healthy sun burn" but then people never say that. Ah well ;)

Maybe because I speak French, but I find "politically correct" quite funny. Did you have a second thought about it?

Seconded... As long as you're carefully a tan is quite okay. Yes, having pale pasty skin from sitting in doors is healthy, but I get laid a hell of a lot more than people with geek-tans.

Oh, and I always like the expression "Microsoft security". Almost as good as "desktop linux"

Switzerland no longer has an army.

anarcho-Marxist
boxer brief
broadcast journalism
chattering class
country style
libertarian socialist
light rail
national merit scholarship
neoconservative
party school
secular humanist
sweet crude

Los Angeles Lakers (there being no lakes within 100 miles which LA hasn't sucked dry)
Utah Jazz (is jazz even legal in Utah? :-) )

"United States" is less of an oxymoron after 11 Sept. 2001 as opposed, say, to 11 Dec. 2000. It does not appear that the same can be said of "United Kingdom" although "European Union" might be added to the list below EC.

A favorite of mine is "network-centric," much popularized by Oracle and Sun but more often used nowadays by US military transformationists.

Most of names for foreign US army Operations are oxymorons too (other countries too but not to that extent).
latest oxymorons:
IRAQI Oil
IRAQI WMD

though normal phrases, "just cause" and "credible evidence" turn into oxymorons too when spoken by GWB administration.

>but I get laid a hell of a lot more than people with geek-tans.

LOL- it is just matter of priorities (1 partner or "fun").if you have a girlfriend i dont think that tan matters in terms of who gets "laid" more - i think that guys with geek-skin with girlfriends get laid more than tanned single. But if "fooling around" is your way then you have more chance on the beach with tanned skin :) However in some countries being REALLY WHITE is more valued as tanned(in south asia for example).

The amount of money Thai girls spend on skin whitening cream is amazing. Also you see them driving their motorbikes in the blazing sun wearing jackets to keep the sun off. Dark skin is low class. The more time I spend in this darn office, the higher my class :)

Monkscuba, yep, exactly. when i styed in VN girls were actually SAD when they got the tan no matter how nice it looked. If you tell the girl "you have nice tan" then you insult her :) they put all sort of creams on their face and put long sleeves (at 40C degrees) when they go out..the logic is that poor people are tanned as they work on the field all day , rich people stay in "house" all day (or not on the sun).
If someone would want to critize this "rich/poor" approach then we should look at ourselves - we are thesame - many girls and boys and most of "old playboys" are tanned beyond normal. Why? certainly not health but it is just a status simbol like in asia - the more tanned youare the more it "looks" that you are "rich" person and have all day tiem to "lie on the beach" . Tanning is mostly just status symbol - no matter if it is white or tanned. We are all "guilty" :)

> i think that guys with geek-skin with girlfriends get laid more than tanned single.

Hmm...I was comparing like with like. Eg, guys with pale pasty white skin, compared to me. But then, I suppose that I get a lot less coding done.

Anyway, its not like I find getting laid important... Its more of a wish that the pasty guys would get out and fun more. I realise that fiddling with computers can be fun (and I used to enjoy doing just that all day), but I've found interacting with people in real time just a lot more interesting and fun.

LMAO Sinner_G:) NOW we finnaly get it what is tan all about - not to get laid but to get geeks realize there is life outside and it is really nice if they would go out . Oh..how humane from tanned people that they care about "us". :)
