It seems an age ago now but back in early February Canada sent 16 tons (number breakout not provided) of PPE (personal protective equipment) such as clothing, face shields, masks, goggles, gloves to China.

A couple days ago China (Bank of China) donated thousands of same to Canada (weight not provided but reportedly 30,000 medical masks (N95 masks to follow) and PPE consisting of of 10,000 sets of clothing and goggles, 50,000 pairs of gloves).

Yes, it is somewhat a PR exercise; however China does remember, long remember assistance or hindrance.

And yes, given the quality concerns/recalls in EU of China provided PPE the Prime Minister says all will be checked before dispersal.

Our neighbours - and trading partners - are everywhere in the world not merely next door. Best we remember that and default to treating each as we would appreciate being treated.

Especially during a global emergency.

Besides, wouldn’t want to tarnish our national reputation for ‘niceness’.

The irony, eh.

Be nice to people on the way up because you'll meet the same people on the way down.
