I don’t know if this is true as I got it whatever hand but it’s such a good story I refuse to check...

Publix Super Markets (US chain) supposed have signs saying that one can make own anti COVID-19 hand wash by mixing Aloe Vera found in aisle whatever with Everclear found in liquor department...

Marketing: up selling lemons into lemonade then cross selling pitcher and glasses set...

I do so love the smell of influence in the morning.

If you look it up, about half the hits are sites telling you how to do it ... and the other half are sites telling you not to do it [marketwatch.com].

But still, don’t drink bleach.

All bogus ... besides even everclear is not potent enough to meet alcohol content suitable for combating virus, bacteria, or even ordinary dirt and grease.

Why waste the good stuff?

Having worked since 1996 in the food processing related area, I have seen how effective a simple measure is, i.e. soap and water. Instead of killing microbes, it takes away both the microbes and their breeding ground. Washing with soap and water is also a measure recommended by the CDC and Anthony Fauci for this particular virus outbreak. They should know what they are talking about.

the hand sanitizer should be for occasions where running water isn't available.
it should be 60% alcohol, so if you are making your own, use 2:1 ratio of 91% isopropyl to aloe vera gel.

Yes, soap and water should do it, with a regular and thorough wasing regime.
It's not always possible to use soap and water, and that's why a hand sanitiser is helpful, but, as phranqe notes, it must be a minimum of 60% alcohol.

You have to commend a business for trying, as long as it's good advice.

There's a town in USA that just proclaimed emergency powers that allows the mayor to ban sale of guns, ammo, alcohol, seize and convert private property as necessary, shut down bars and clubs (where alcohol is served), restrict ingress and egress from the city, and a whole list of other things for up to 28 days. Nothing said about washing hands. :)

Falls into the "It's the thought that counts..." paradigm.
