i just finished reading sam waltons book 'made in america'.
it was a real great story on the walmart retail empire.
gives you some great tips on handling retail business.
Mr sam clearly emphasises the 3 fundas of handling a retail business.
buy cheap, stack high and sell cheap..
one thing i cant follow.
i did a bit of comparison of products on walmart.com and other onlie stores.
walmart definetly werent the cheapest of them all.
infact prices at walmart.com were really high.
wonder if uncle sam's principles were used on their website.
try a comparison for Canon ZR60 at walmart and bizrate.com
Even though it's cheaper to sell online the mass distribution of their storefront means they really would be capturing "new" customers just preventing current consumers from coming into the store.
Walmart is one of the few off-line successes that will unlikely ever do much "online" for that reason... they won't create greater market share just producing the reason to shutdown stores.
