Hello-

Did not know with whom to share the enjoyment, ... but I succeeded to reduce the size of the CSS of one of my site by 1/3. This is my elder site, and over the years I kept adding things, the CSS gained weight. So, this week, I decided to review all the styles and do some clean up, regrouping, simplifying, and also applied things I've learned since the first time I made this CSS. As a result, the design of the site remains the same, but the CSS went form 45 KB to 15 KB.

Happy.

That's great, especially with Google's insatiable appetite for fast loading sites.

from 45 KB to 15 KB.
Wow, that's some major liposuction.

Upon reading these numbers, I scurried to my own site files to do an anxious comparison. (I suspect I am not alone in this.) On my biggest site, shared styles are 6k, while the various directories' styles vary from 4 to 7 k. (I further suspect that some of this material can be shifted to sharedstyles, but so far I haven't had the energy to look into it. Besides, it only matters if a user drifts among different directories, which most don't.) Areas that use a third specialized stylesheet run anywhere from 2 to--yikes!--9 k. Three stylesheets is my absolute ceiling (looking at you, WordPress).

Those lovely KBs, Off we shed/shave/shrink/minify them. Spill them in a HEAD, much faster.

It also helps when you stop bothering with "old" versions of IE :)
