According to report published on the FTC site, researchers discovered more than 1,000 apps on Android were bypassing data permission denials.

However, apps can circumvent the permission model and gain access to protected data without user consent by using both covert and side channels.

I have not finished reading it all, but there are some really naughty apps out there that capture unauthorized info and share it with other apps that don't have the sneaky gene built in.
