Finding the best search engine ...

... or is Google just being kind?

Well, I posted this earlier in the Google forum but the thread got deleted just the other day without any notice (I guess due to the new forum charter).

But anyway - Iīll try it again because I think itīs quite funny that Google ranks itself as no. 3 searching for a 'search engine [google.com]' --- in Google.

Many of the 'formal' forums at WebmasterWorld started in FOO.

I think Altavista more than likely was reading up on the tips here - hence the high ranking.

It's all part of the Google plot, though. Soon, they will lose their ranking and Altavista may have to resort to Adwords to keep their traffic flowing. :)

I note with interest that Infoseek (go.com) have 2 exactly identical listings in the top 20 (10th and 13th). What gives? They even have 35th place too...

No they arenīt the top search engine but they are our favourite search engine [google.com]...

That site also seems to be the worst search engine [google.com]...

looks like things have changed since the first result of that search ;)
