So I am sitting here reading some WW posts and I here a ruckus outside, peer out the blinds see some kids and turn on the outside light ...

Lap disolve into a flashback sequence ....

I was outside with some friends laughing having a good time and some old guy peeks out his window and turns on the lights to see what we are up to...

You are obviously not as old as I am. When I was a kid they didn't have outside lights to turn on

Every day I ask myself what happened to the last 40 years, only seems like yesterday I queued all night in the rain to get a Beatles ticket but it was 1964.
Sad old fart I am!

"Hope I die before I get old...."

Ya, I USED to think the exact same thing.
Now my 30 something son says "You know dad, I cringe every time I get after my kids using the same words you used with me."
And life does go on…

I would like to have my midlife crises while I’m young enough to enjoy it....

I made a career change in my mid thirties and had my first mid-life crisis at age 42. I keep thinking I should have another one. My wife tells me I'm only allowed one. Before I go on record disputing her, I'd like to know if it's written down somewhere, like in a rule book or something.

Just this morning, I was talking to a friend about a class debate in 6th grade.

I clearly remember arguing that people should be euthanized when they turn 35. They have, at that point, lived the most fruitful years of their lives and should give others a chance.

It occurs to me that I didn't even like myself until I was 40!

can I ask you guys a question.
I am now still working for a day time job for someone else's company.

should I leave that job, 100k job? before I am too old?

and concentrate on online self-employed?

All the best?

a couple of favorite mid-life moments.

(a) coming home with my first ever sporty car, some
thing I somehow managed to always bypass in my
youth. Upon seeing the 'are you nuts' eyeballs
I simply noted it's not a midlife crisis buy
because I did check that the car seat would fit.

(b) showing up at the youngest child's first pre T-ball
game, and being completely bombarded with question
after question from the 99% of parents who were
just starting out in sports with their first born.
After about question #30, I looked to my spouse
and whispered "It's finally happened... we've
become the elders."

Lawman,
After the mid life crisis comes the andropause and then the Viagra, still its better than the alternative.

I often heard my coworker leave their job for "career change"
But never know what they actually do after they leave.

Now I hear you guys here say that too.
So I ask for advice.

What should I during the middle age time.

Day time job, no no?

Really, they just disappear. See the Matrix threads...

>>What should I during the middle age time

Do what you love. Yep, it's cliche.

Tesla would have kept inventing even if he never ran into Westinghouse. Tolkien wrote books with no regard for money. My favorite is Mel Fisher. All he wanted to do was search for lost treasure. Every little boy has made a hole in a yard somewhere looking for gold. Mel Fisher found the Atocha, after losing a son and putting every penny he had on the line. (as well as quite a few pennies other people loaned to him).

I know several very wealthy people that are miserable. They hate their lives, hate their jobs, they even hate themselves. My best friend wanders all over the U.S. taking black and white pictures of the people he meets. He never has more than a couple of hundred dollars at one time. Every time he calls me he exudes happiness. Some day, his collection of photos and stories might interest a publisher. He doesn't care, and he's happy.

Can't agree more. That's why I coach soccer. play soccer and do fireworks. And now, learning about the web. Life is interesting.

(Oh, did I forget, I also work.)

When I was younger I enjoyed getting into trouble. Now that I'm older, I still think of ways to get in trouble, but then I just take a nap instead.

how many kids are best?
I mean the number of kids.

#boys / # girls?

will you work for someone else for 100k and work for yourself 80k?

Do you prefer to be an mgr or an engineer? a director?

or self boss?

My great grandparents lived thru the depression and told stories of how bad it was. I have always tried to work for a company with good benefits, both medical and retirment. I'd be way to scared to go it alone, especially now that I have a wife, 2 kids and mortgage...

how many kids are best? 2.5 (and a dog)
I mean the number of kids.
#boys / # girls? (1.1 boy and 1.4 girl, but then, I am biased.)

will you work for someone else for 100k and work for yourself 80k? (yes, $180k is alot of cash :) )

Do you prefer to be an mgr or an engineer? a director? (I prefer to be happy)

or self boss? (Never, I'd work myself too hard)

I try lawman, I try. People often say they find me trying ;)

shaoye, you must follow you own path. Ask people what they like or dislike about the path they have choosen and realize that things that happened to them on one path may not happen to you on that same path. Only the certain things like periods without contracts for consultants and periods of boredom with a long-term job (read 25+ years) are certainties.

The only advice I'll offer, think twice before having three children. Two works well generally, so does four, three and the middle child may have difficulties. But still, it may not happen to your children.

Slightly outside my expertise but if I remember my discovery channel correctly, it has to due with an x/y chromosome the male "passes" to the female. I think you can increse the likelyhood of one over the other going to an invitro fertazation clinic but don't think that's a 100% certainty either.

>> Define "too old," please.

Well, must be a personal thing, I guess......
At 51, I still believe (more or less) in the same things...
Still go to rock concerts (sometimes playing in them too, he, he.....
Still stay out 'til 8:00 am or later (no grief from my parents now though :+) )
My kids are real pleased to bump into me in the bars/discos at 5:00 am, instead of being embarrassed.

I guess when you start to feel old (in your head) it's time to retire..... LOL
