I may have spotted either a minor flaw in this door, or in a limited application. Should anyone have a parcel stored in the expanding door storage, once arriving back home, how would they open the door if there is a wall adjacent to the door. If your door is in a hallway you just wouldn't be able get in to the house.
The only thing you could do would be to retrieve the parcel from the outside before entering.

It looks like a very over-engineered solution to the problem. Why not just have a "box" outside that can be opened by the delivery person and locked securely. The door solution has way too many limitations. A lot of doors will either open against an internal wall or as Engine pointed out have a second internal door.

Yeah okay... Notice the bit in the video where the guy says "If I go inside" and then doesn't use the door to go inside. So what are doors used for again? That's right, doors are storage devices, how silly of me.

Mack has it, just have a box outside, or use one of the freely available lockers, or be in at the time of delivery, or have it delivered to your place of work.

There's nothing wrong with my current front door, apart from the fact it doesn't have a huge hole in tit for packages. It does have a convenient hole in it for letters and small packages. hehehe

Oh, just thought of one other way - have the package delivered to a friendly neighbour.

Finally, go and buy the item from a retail store.

Problems that I see:
1) The "expanding storage" doesn't seem very secure- seems like it would be a lot easier to break through that than break down the entire door. For the "security" of preventing a package from being stolen, you open yourself up to complete home theft.
2) What if the company making the doors doesn't make one in the size/style I want? Having replaced our front door a few years ago, we looked at a LOT of styles before we finally found one we liked.

In regards to the box outside idea, there was recently a person on Shark Tank with such a device. Pretty much shot down by all the sharks (way too high of an evaluation).

With all the tech that is out there, and the brilliance of scheduling, drive time, etc, what solves the problem is the PACKAGE calls the customer with:

"I am 24 hours away. Will you be home tomorrow?"
"I am on the truck for delivery, are you home?"
"I am one hour away, are you home?"
"I am 30 minutes away, are you home?"
"I am 15 minutes away, are you home?"
"Sorry we missed you. Please be home tomorrow, or you may pick up at your night pickup node at xxxx Anystreet between 7pm-12pm to avoid a re-delivery charge of $1,200.00. Bring your photo id."

Well, it COULD work!
