Me: Hey server folks, good morning. We are noticing some intermittent issues this morning, are you doing some tinkering?

Server Folks: Yes, we have updated the [insert major software name] on your server. It likely broke all functionality on your website which is why we decided not to let you know in advance.

Me: K, thanks...

Or (server folks): We didn't notify you in advance, because then you might have tried to prevent us from doing it.

Yeah, i'm sure that happens LIA. I've been with these folks 20+ years and never tried to talk them out of an update. I do prefer, if at all possible, major updates be done on weekends (costs us less in lost revenue when things go sideways) and ideally if they can do the secondary servers first so we can see if there are any issues prior to hitting the main servers.

But on the upside, things have been a little boring lately so the excitement of digging through a few billion lines of code to find out why and which obscure snippets of php code broke after a migration to EasyApache 4 should be a nice change...
