We had a nice, big 7+ magnitude quake a couple hundred miles from where I live a while ago... lasted a couple of minutes, and had aftershocks (which I didn't feel) for weeks afterwards.

Once I looked at the local university's earthquake information pages though, I realized quakes up here are almost constant occurrences... and Alaska hasn't fallen off N. America yet, so there's hope for your survival. ;)

Didn't feel a thing here in AKL Olwen (probably everyhing South of the Bombay Hills was shaking ;), but I think we should all spare a thought for those poor people in Algeria. Last I heard, 1700 dead :(

Kinda puts the Google dance into perspective.

Didn't feel a thing here in AKL

It was only a tiny quake even about 15 km from the centre. I doubt it was felt north of Cook Strait.
