We bought our 11 year old his first on Xmas '82. He still has a collection of Spectrums and Ataris and sundry add-ons that he brought over with him. We spent that first Christmas and Boxing day trying to get Hangman to work. Back then, you'd buy a weekly publication of games which needed to be typed in only to find half the time there were typos in the code. A correction would be in next weeks pub.

I had one of those! Not sure where it went: I suspect I loaned it to a friend and it never came back. I managed to persuade the company i worked for to acquire and IBM PC about that time so the spectrum seemed rather basic (no pun intended).

Spectrum? Luxury. When I were lad we had to make do with ZX80.
