i guess people can deface pages on wikipedia if they have the authority ... but really this is pathetic ... [en.wikipedia.org...] the mentions of the USA are not funny (not to me anyway)

I followed your link, loaded the wiki page and used the browser's "find" tool and could not find *any* mention of the USA, nor United States, nor America.

all the references to the persian empire had been changed to the American Empire, the United States or the USA ... it seems they have now changed back.
(btw, i'm not anti american, quite the opposite in fact - it wasn't funny to me, just silly)
but it made me wonder how easy it is to make childish changes like that and how often it is done.

It's easy to sign up as an editor. As such you have access to edit pages. However, the edits are temporary unless approved by the page admin.

the "View History" tab should show all edits and reversions.

ah how interesting, phranque, i'd never even noticed the history tab before - although it is clear as day! it seems that particular page has been prone to 'vandalism' for a while!

Just because it is on the internet does not make it true. Words to live by.

Quite a few pages are subject to "vandalism" as you put it, and it's quite commonplace.

vandalism is actually the term used in the notes (in the history tab)!
i assumed it was at least a semi official wikipedia editor term.

Some of the jon jones wiki edits were hilarious, but I agree, if it's informative information, then don't mess with it.
