i registered a new .com on sunday and this morning received 2 marketing phone calls from (or more likely - on behalf of) web design agencies, both mentioning the domain i registered around 60 hours ago.

fast work guys! kudos for that!

one call originated in washington dc and the other in london, england - doubtless routed through those two places to look like they originated there - that's what my cellphone displayed on the screen though.

here's what makes me scratch my head though .... and is my question to whoever contracts these marketing companies to cold call for them:

Q: What makes you think i'd have any interest in using your company when the marketer who calls me can barely speak english and the phone line is crackly, delayed and not loud enough!

Comes with the territory, I feel. But that was pretty fast.

I don't like the cold calls about my web properties because I take pride in doing things myself, but they don't see it that way. They see my web sites as oppertunity for their business.

I do use the do_not_call report forms when I'm in an irritable mood. Other times I just say "no thank you" and hang up.

I get them all the time. They are so persistent but generally they haven't got a clue.

Wow, they were quick. The must keep refreshing the new registrations.

Nothing to do with web design but I got one a couple of years ago, the one from "Microsoft" offering to fix a fault on my computer. Feeling mischievous I led the heavily accented guy on for two or three minutes then I called him a scamming B and told him to "depart" in no uncertain terms.

He called me back a couple of minutes later but I have caller display so I did not answer. A couple of minutes later he called again from a different number and unleashed a tirade of abuse, I hung up. He called again and my wife said, "Let me answer that." He then mouthed of all sorts of obscenities and threat towards her and all my "children and grandchildren."

During the next couple of weeks he called several time including during the night. He used different numbers and it was getting upsetting so I contacted the police (in Scotland where I live). They told me that they could do nothing about it as the calls were coming from abroad, Eventually they stopped but it was a very unpleasant experience especially when told there was nothing we could do about it.

I've received several robo calls pretending to be Google saying I will get more clicks if I upgrade my Google Business listing to the Gold level.

I've never picked-up or returned their call to find out what the Gold level gets me, other than my gold becoming their gold.
