Stripes are ubiquitous in modern life, from City shirts and barcodes, to Venetian blinds and zebra crossings

But a new study suggests they might be making us ill.

Scientists in the Netherlands and the US have discovered that for some people, simply looking at vertical lines, either on a static image, or in real life, can trigger a neural loop of activity in the brain.

In severe cases it can lead to epilepsy, but researchers think it might also be responsible for migraines.

Wonder why it took so long to figure this out? After all most prison uniforms are striped. Tigers are striped, so are Zebras ... and pin-stripe suits have been around for a century or two...

Where the migraines come from is umpires in various sports making dumb rulings on the field.

Then it might be advisable to stay out of prison.

The one that always gets me is the Tide laundry soap logo that has the parallel orange-red & blue swirly lines that appear to vibrate. Always gives me pain behind my eyes if I look at it for more that a couple seconds.

And how about those TacLight commercials that show off the strobe feature. I hate that part of the commercial and I don't even have photosensitive epilepsy.
