Ok so I got a new wireless Win 2k laptop at work/home. My wife now works from home and we got a new XP home (not xp pro) computer. I converted my old tower unit to a win2k domain controller/file-print server.

My kids old games that used to run on windows 98 don't work on win XP. The win xp machine can see the win 2k machine but not vice versa. I put the printer on the domain controller but the win xp machine has to logon to it everytime with a username and password (a task which is outside of the range of my wife and kids). Verdict the win xp machine is a problem.

Do I rebuild the xp machine to win 98 or win 2k? Anybody who can offer any suggestions, and help save whats left of my already receding hairline, would be appreciated.

Hi GrayWolf,

Your asking a mouthful.

Games
Windows XP has a compatibility mode that might help here.

2000 can't see XP
Check the network protocol you are using. Try combining NetBeui with TCP/IP.

Printer
You should be able to change this on the computer the printer is attached to. Go into printers and check your sharing permissions.

Hope this helps.

add the XPs login to the 2K machine and they shouldnt have to login when they connect over the network.
