In my younger years I used to love professional wrestling. Haven't watched it in years. There were plenty of genuine characters to keep it entertaining. Not much money in the early years - they did it as much for the fun of it as anything else. Anyhow, when I hear about one of these older entertainers dying it gets my attention.

The Animal wasn't much to look at; he was hairy all over, had a green tongue, and chewed his way through many a turnbuckle. He came across as a savage dolt. In reality he had a masters degree and taught high school at one time. He just passed away at age 79.

Never watched pro wrestling. Seems like it would have been entertaining though. The only time my interest was drawn to the "sport" was when Hulk Hogan would get on the news by saying something colorful.

I did very much enjoy the Darren Aronofsky film The Wrestler starring Mickey Rourke. I wonder what real world similarities there were between Rourke's character and The Animal?
