i never knew that.
i saw derek several times with the allman brothers in the 90s and must have assumed or "misremembered" it was butch's son ever since.

i've also seen derek's brother duane play with widespread panic.
i wonder who he was named after...

I saw Derek play some Buckhead bar in Atlanta in the mid 90s. Definitely not the Allman Brothers. He looked like he was about 15 at the time.
