a dime per but what difference would it make get the cans and bottles out of the landfill and into recycle. 10,000 is only a grand hardly worth prison time for.

That is funny. When I was young and in Devon (UK) I +friends used to collect deposits on bottles of pop left on beaches by happy holidaymakers. Made enough to buy a 'single' over a weekend, until we got banned by all the retailers.

That's funny! I live in Montreal, Quebec. I know people who collect their empty wine bottles all year round and then drive to the closest LCBO, the gov't sanctioned liquor store in Ontario, where they get a refund for them. There is no deposit/refund for wine bottles in Quebec. I have never heard of anyone getting caught for this.

Also in the news today the Quebec gov't is talking about raising the deposit from 5 to 10 cents, for beer cans. I am certain that people are going to start stock piling their cans until the change takes effect. That is a 100% ROI.

That is just plain stupid. The local town where he is from should just hire the Guy to promote recycling.

I know that in some parts of Poland, one could return empty bottles of Beer for a few Grosze(currency) at most of the grocery stores, lots of people do it, lots of people drink beer too. If you need a plastic bag when you are shopping, you have to pay for it. Most people bring their own bags. The result is definitely visible, Actually NOT visible, on the cleanness of the streets. There are so much less garbage/plastic bags/bottles on the streets.

Compare that to any local towns bus stop in US...

The US is getting more F up by the year and yes blend27 you are correct the country is nasty why go after a man that is helping. Think about it 10k of bottles and cans he spent a lot of time collecting them driving to get the refund and end up in jail. To me just plain stupid but we are suppose to be the land of the free, well that was way back then. Now we a nation of laws and regulations many stupid many good.
