Anyone notice how a down-arrow doesn't work like it used to - or "page down" or "page up" either?

Is there a way to get control of my cursor keys back?

i thought this was a problem with Firefox and Facebook, but just found out that i'm having similar nav issues when I try to read a PDF in Firefox.

Anyone know what to do here?

happy foo!

I'm not experiencing any Firefox issues with up/down arrows or page keys. Perhaps it's a keyboard issue? Or have you re-visited your mouse settings in your OS and made sure they are set to your preferences?

No changes with keyboard or mouse - no problem with chrome or other browsers. Just Firefox. And Facebook.

I love my FF keyboard shortcuts - it makes certain things really fast. Without same, I feel crippled.

Guess I need to spend less time on FB!

Which version are you on. FF is currently on 48.0.2, and i'm not currently experiencing any problems you describe.

I would double-check the KB version to make sure it's not, somehow, switched to an alternative version, such as UK. I don't know why it might do that unless a custom KB file has corrupted. Of course, you'd expect the same results in other browsers.

For others that might be interested, here's the keyboard shortcuts.

FF 48.0.2

cursor seems to leap to different active sections as I page through FB. Only way to nav reasonably is using the scroll bar.

@chewy - does your copy of Firefox have any add-ons or extensions, especially an ad-blocker?

I ask because Facebook recently updated how they handle ad presentation which may not work well with something you have added to Firefox.

Check under tools/options under Advanced
Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages

The default is UNCHECKED

Enable it and see if that makes a difference

always checked. Always has been checked.

Really weird behavior still going on. Facebook seems to want to seize my cursor and place it on various hot-spots on the FB interface.

On load, the first place it (the cursor) lands is the message notification red-spot. I can see the cursor hanging out there flashing, so any control starts with that. Move the cursor (any shift with the touchpad) and then a light touch and the cursor moves where you want it to go. Up and down arrow nav keys work well at that point. But page up or page down nav keys are USELESS and actually work backwards. Of course, if you toggle to Chrome, they work perfectly.

Wonder if there is some bizarre user-interface testing going on. Only happens with Firefox and FB.

Everything seems QUITE normal with Chrome.

And yes, I once used FB (Fluff Busting) Purity as a FB filter. I thought that might be the cause. I removed that. Also AdBlock Plus, I removed that as well --- long ago.

Still same odd behavior!

is there some weird, new fangled "snap to grid" like feature in Win 10 that we don't know about yet?

Run the REFRESH FIREFOX to reset all defaults to "new installation" and see if that makes a difference. [support.mozilla.org...]

Well, now 45 days later and I've basically abandoned Firefox and I've started to increasingly notice this behavior on Chrome as well - all sorts of reinstalls and anti-virus products (plus a consult with Microsoft) have confirmed this is NOT due to some malfunction on this machine - and recently my wife (on a Mac) also started complaining about similar ODD behavior - also on Chrome.

My point is this - am i crazy?

Has the internet (and Facebook and now some other sites as well) begun the increasing practice of seizing our cursors and moving them to where they want us to "click" rather than where we want to be?

Do we (as consumers) even have language for this?

If there was a reason for it - (which it would appear that there is) what would it be -- my theory is that this is pro-advertising ROI and anti-consumer behavior akin to the old "crime" of having TV sound volume increased during commercials.

This "cursor grabbing" behavior is nothing but an attempt to trick us into accidentally clicking on revenue enhancing zones on these websites - and it seems we have no recourse - because we can't even talk about it - let alone analyze what's going on.

Am I crazy? This seems a distant cousin of "clickbaiting" but as I have no word for it, I'm at a loss. (clickjacking - cursorjacking?)

Is it Facebook doing this manipulation - or is it Comcast (our local MONOPOLY access to the internet and TV) - or am I imagining this whole thing?

Good thing I don't have to live on the internet. I'm thinking of going back to PAPER!

I would check the headers while loading a page where I see that kind of problem. If it is not happening everywhere all the time, it sounds like something specifically is triggering the action. The headers should help you pin it down.
