How far will MSN go to get new subscribers? Apparently to the portable potty at your local summer concert or festival.

Full article here [news.com.com]

MSN UK is negotiating with toilet paper manufacturers for special rolls with Web addresses, or URLs, printed on them.

Sounds like MSN has finally got round to offering a serious alternative to adwords...ahem...

...must - engage - brain - before - typing...

That said though - if I'd had a Microsoft super-loo then I might have seen that post whilst, erm, otherwise engaged earlier.

Ooh. But you've got a fun thread title... I'll bring the other thread over here and stick 'em together. :)

<added>There we are... Microsoft Toilet Talk: Now Featuring Three Threads in One. :) (edited the subtitle to include title of last thread also)</added>

What was the movie with dana carvey where he talked about putting ads in the stalls?

I think at the time it was a joke - I don't think anyone was doing it, but I have seen more and more lately.

Yeah, I'm waiting for them to put motion-sensor activated recordings on the ads or something. Sit down, and the thing starts into a verbal sales pitch... right when you're least likely to get up and walk away from it. ;)

If nothing else, it gives a whole new meaning to the sensation of having butterflies in the tummy.

[cnn.com...]

This is normally the sort of thing The Onion [theonion.com] would spoof... luckily for us, MSN is there FIRST!

Horribly, this is also surely a part of captive marketing [time.com].

I guess that is where most of Microsoft's products belong anyway:)

motion-sensor activated recordings on the ads or something

They had these above the urinals at Pravda in Boston. Nice captive audience.

Egads... so it's already happened. That's horrible.

I think internet access would be preferrable, but who's going to spend long enough in a toilet to check their email? And will they provide a box of sanitary disposable gloves next to the keyboard? (Or, to expand on the comment above: an attachment for ultra-portable PDA-style keyboards?)

I don't know about you, but I really don't like spending any time in a portable toilet, (or loo), let alone taking the time to surf. I just hope M$ spent buuko bux on this stinker.

I see this doing well somewhere like Japan. They love their high tech toilets.
