The iconic Land Rover Defender is to cease production today after 33 years in continuous production.

Built by Jaguar Land Rover at its Solihull factory, the Defender can trace its roots through the original Series vehicles back to 1948, making it one of world’s first four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Well, I owned half of one. Friend of mine in West Texas has a ranch. When his Jeep died (1970s) had a shot at a Land Rover. As far as I know it is still running... and my buddy never paid back my loan. Didn't mind, we did some nice deer and javelina hunting and camping with that "Old Dear".

There have been some nice tv shows about the Land Rover Defender on recently.
Today, it just no longer meets modern emission and safety standards.
Apparently, there's going to be a new Defender launched in a year ot two.

A friend had one of these and it was incredible how it got over the challenging terrain. It never broke down on him while we were using it, despite what we threw at it. He did say it had a fairly straightforward in design so it was easy to repair, wherever he was.
