Paul Kantner, one of the giants of the San Francisco music scene, died Thursday, Jan. 28, of multiple organ failure. Mr. Kantner, founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, was 74 and had suffered a heart attack earlier this week.

Guitar players dropping out.... who's next?

Paul was a grumpy guitar player, though cordial enough for short periods of time. Have a few tracks we did back in 76 not meant for publication (rather rude stuff). Great fun (you had to have been there).

This is the fourteenth reference to Kanter I've read tonight and the fourteenth that omitted his culpability for Jefferson Starship. Don't mean to be mean to someone who just died but the airplane only had a single good song, and it wore thin by the fifth time I heard it. Not sure how that makes Kanter a musical giant, especially because his one big hit rocked out because of Grace Slick.

Okay.... well, I suppose some of us listen to guitar players in whatever band they are playing in (including Starship ... and a few others).... What remains, however, is we are dying off, those of that generation and some are dying before us. I doubt my obituary will make national news (sigh) I just ain't that famous. :)

The scariest part is the money they had available to fix their problems did not help.

Tribute bands won't be short of material for quite awhile with all the old rockers queued up ready to drop off the conveyor belt of life.
