I'm saddened to hear of his passing.

R&B and soul singer Ben E King, best known for the classic song Stand By Me, has died at the age of 76.

King started his career in the late 1950s with The Drifters, singing on hits including There Goes My Baby and Save The Last Dance For Me.

After going solo, he hit the US top five with Stand By Me in 1961. R.I.P. Ben E King [bbc.co.uk]

I'm starting to feel like one of few surviving member of a "last man standing" club.

Nothing weird going on... just old age, sometimes hard living... Not that much difference between his age and mine. My friends and family are dropping like flies... actually outlived both of my ex-wives. But it is sad,. nonetheless. We all would like to live forever.

Did a studio session with him back in the 70s on a track that didn't get airplay. Very businesslike, personable, Paid well. :)

Side note: Folks dying all the time. Had a reason to research the Doobie Brothers today... didn't know that five of the original band had passed (3 from cancer, 1 heart attack, 1 stroke). Not sure I'd want to be a Doobie!

This is my fave Ben E. King:

@londrum: You really don't believe there's a conspiracy to take out aging singers who last burned up the charts in the Sixties and Seventies, do you?
