Speed-Matching Slow Pokes

It happens all over - slow pokes who like to speed match so you cannot go around them. Happens all the time on one of the roads between work and home.

Sometimes the two drivers are oblivious to what they are doing. But as often than not, at least one of them thinks it is their duty to keep anyone from passing. If one of the speed-matching cars increases speed slightly, I get behind that person. However, I cannot challenge the other driver directly because he/she (yes women do it too) will make sure you don't get around him/her.

What I do is hold back until the faster car has given me enough room. Then I blip the throttle and I'm around both of them. This is possible because the speed enforcer who does not want you to pass doesn't think there's enough room - he/she has never driven a car that builds revs that fast. Most of the time that is the end of it, they accept the fact that they failed in their duty. Maybe they'll honk their horn or flash their lights but that's usually it.

Not today. Same scenario. Behind a guy in the left lane speed matching the guy in the right lane. I noticed that the guy in the right lane slightly increased his speed. I got in that lane and slowly crept up as the gap opened. When I saw enough daylight I blipped the throttle and was around.

The guy in the left lane could not accept that he failed. He hit the gas and after a few seconds was on my bumper. I switched to the right lane to go around another car and Mr. Slowpoke/Tailgater stayed right with me. Hmm. Coming up on a red light. An 18 wheeler was one of the vehicles in the right lane so I got back in the left lane. Mr. Slowpoke/Tailgater stayed in the right lane and maintained his speed, wanting to cut me off. Didn't happen.

After the light changed, Mr. Slowpoke/Tailgater tried to catch up to me again, but other traffic intervened. I went home without further incident.

This speed matching scenario plays out on other roads all the time including the Interstate. Can't we all just get along?

Some people just get into their cars and turn into crazy people.
Trucks seem to be the worst in my exp.

but yea... or if they are really jerks i've even flew around them in a turn lane, SUCKA didn't expect THAT did ya!

2 lane double solid roads...same stuff, sorry im doing the speed limit...ohhh you wanna pass? RUH ROH! make them turn a few shades of white before i just jab the brakes and let them go raging away 20 mph over the speed limit.

They need to get rid of speed limits on Interstates, the safest speed to drive is what the flow of traffic is moving at. The primary cause of accidents is the disruption to that flow.

Ticket people in the left lane that don't belong there, ticket tailgaters and ticket aggressive drivers. Ticketing the people in the left will eliminate most of the tailgaters and aggressive drivers.

I'm not quite understanding here ... does "speed match" mean to drive at the posted limit?

I would never advocate speeding on public roads, but, some people just won't move over into the inside lane to let others past. This is especially annoying when they are not at the speed limit, and sometimes nowhere near. <i've said before, don't get me started!> :)

It can but that is rare - very rare. My state has a slowpoke law - slower drivers on limited access roads need to be in a lane other than the inside lane (left most lane in US) no matter what their speed is, which is almost always slower than most other drivers on the road.

I-95 in FLA... nobody drives the speed limit, doing 70 would get you run off the road.

Unless the road is congested, you need to make a left exit or are passing someone you don't belong in the left lane. It's an unsafe driving practice at any speed.
