There's so many and the specs are so crazy and so is all the misinformation.

All I want is one that can get a min of 1920x1080, have actual HDMI and DVI ports, work in portrait mode, and be capable of being mounted on an actual mount and not cost $300.

They start at $200 these days but you don't get all you want for that price and the really good ones with better resolution and all that are easily $400.

I can't believe nobody has a place where you can sort them out based on all the specs and not just size, brand and price.

Lame, very lame.

ADDED:

I found 40" 4K TVs that you can use as monitors being blown out the door as low as $600 for 'game day' specials and I just about jumped on one until I read the reviews. I never thought I'd ever see an LG get that horrible of a review, no wonder they're giving them away.

My bright idea was instead of 2 x 27" monitors the on 40" 4K had enough resolution for 2 normal HDMI displays in the same space but only 1 monitor. Can you imagine that beast in portrait mode. Wow.

Consumer Reports gave this their top rating for a 4K monitor:
Philips 28-Inch 4K Ultra HD LED Monitor w/ 3840 x 2160 resolution (288P6LJEB)

Amazon has one right now for $556.80.
[amazon.com...]

Consumer Reports had to split hairs on the 4K to have a rating. This was rated "not easy to set up," but otherwise as good as any except the Asus, which are expensive. I'd think you could handle set up.
[amazon.com...]

I don't always--often, in fact--agree with Consumer Reports. I subscribe because I use them in my work. This was their top rated non-4K monitor:
[amazon.com...]

Shee, expensive.

Thanks guys

After doing a little research, there's no really good monitor spec comparison page, there's a real need there. The best one I found limited me to 4 models at a time and I couldn't deselect one.

What I'd like is a page where I can pick the specs to compare, select as many units as I want, and let them scroll sideways. It would allow deselecting them one a time and would save the final list, maybe even to an Amazon wish list or something.

Anyway...

The cheapest are all 1080p HD models which are OK for now as $212 is pretty disposable. If I get tired of it I could slap a chromecast on the HDMI port and have a 27" TV elsewhere, the bathroom could use one ;)

I'm tortured on whether to get one with the stand that both lifts and rotates, like my current stands, or switch to a dual monitor stand that holds them both and rotates, plus freeing up the space on my desk where monitor stand bases currently waste that space.

So many issues...

What I'm probably going to do is get a TWO new 27" monitors, one for my primary and the other for monitor 2, a total of 54" of display on my desk. Oh yeah....

I really want touch for #1 which is another can of worms, meaning I'll probably end up with 2 different units. I found a cheap Dell and Asus 27" touch on Amazon, but they both have problems but I'm leaning toward the Asus as I can do touch for under $400 and it's got higher than HD resolution.

I can't believe nobody makes it easy to really compare apples and oranges, this is nuts!

What are you going to do, dance with them? (Not that there is anything wrong with that.) You are obviously one of those "clean desk" people. With my "system" if my screens moved, there would be speakers, phones, pencil cups and lamps all going everywhere.

Hardly. That's why I need more space! Scanners, speakers, my arduino thermometer, tablet, phones, extra drives, etc.

I need more space for the crap.

No, I don't dance with them but I mostly us my main monitor in portrait mode so I can see more lines of code down the screen at once. Same with editing documents, or browsing WebmasterWorld, I like the taller screen real-estate.

However, sometimes I need it flipped over or I have to shift everything to screen #2.

I'm thinking 2 vertical 27" displays configured as one big virtual screen would really rock.

We shall see

what will you do about the annoying bezel size they slap on them these days!
