Looking at the results, some of the low percentages are concerning, especially for the privacy question, imho.

Thankfully, I managed 100% on the quiz.</smug look>

American internet users’ knowledge of the modern technology landscape varies widely across a range of topics, according to a new knowledge quiz conducted by the Pew Research Center as part of its ongoing series commemorating the 25th anniversary of the World Wide Web. I am not sure of the relevance of being able to recognise a picture of Sheryl Sandberg

Who ?..Seriously that was my reaction..and when I'd searched "Sheryl Sandberg", my reaction became "meh"..

"Amazing Grace" however ..( if they were looking for a female face that people ought to know )
[en.wikipedia.org...]
Merits her place in the Pantheon of the really important people who have contributed to IT and thus "the web"..

I'm always riled by quizzes that don't give options for "Well, kinda-sorta" or "It depends" or "For a given definition of X". Or simply "I DON'T KNOW". ("It isn't the things you don't know that hurt you: it's the things you do know that ain't so.")

I am not sure of the relevance of being able to recognise a picture of Sheryl Sandberg

Thanks, piatkow, that saved me one lookup. (Since there was no "I don't know" option, I did what any rational human would do and looked up the ones I didn't know. This constrains my potential errors to the things I was confident of. In case anyone wondered, I looked up five things.)

Your results are compared with those of 1,066 adult internet users

1066? Really? Hahaha.

Now back to the one quiz I can generally pass [ratbehavior.org]

8 out of 12 on the rat quiz, I clearly know more about rodents than I do about the net. On the other hand I don't have to worry about the internet nesting under the floor boards.

10/12 for me. Got the IPhone release year wrong and the Facebook origin. Those kind of things are probably common knowledge to the blogging celebrity interwebz types, that's my excuse anyway.

Come to think of it ... why does it even matter whether people know what Bill Gates looks like? That says a whole lot more about celebrity culture than about net-savviness.

I got 7/7 on the ones I didn't look up. I consider that satisfactory, because it means I don't have any incorrect knowledge.

Got a vague impression that Facebook:Harvard is one of the many, many things I used to know but they've fallen by the wayside, dislodged by ... oh, who knows.

I tend to hypercorrect by identifying some mice as (baby) rats. But I'm pretty sure I can tell whether Bill Gates is a mouse or a rat.
