I being realistic here I spent the last few years fumbling about in the dark. Getting links, diavowing and removing links, validating, html5, and making pretty things in JQuery all to no avail.

I feel I have wasted my time learning how to build websites for at the moment at best they reach a limited audience. I suppose I was fortunate to have made some money from the web but that's rapidly dwindling.

I honestly see no logic in the SERPS anymore.

My question is should I continue to bang my head against a brick wall or take what little money I have left and invest in a offline business.

I think it was Einstein that said "Madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

I completely understand where you're coming from, seoskunk. You've certainly not wasted your time.

In the last few years the web has changed significantly, and mobile has made that shift away from pure desktop accelerate. Mobile, smartphones and tablets, is the growth area, and it means a new approach.

Take your own business, for example: Look at all the areas where mobile will bring you new opportunities. Yes, it means search, but it also means apps, social media, and direct marketing opportunities. Is there room for your own app? Are there apps out there that need the kind of data you can serve? Can your audience use your site on a mobile (small screen)?
