Spanish ISP

A rather lucky client of ours has just landed a job that entails spending a couple of days a week in the UK and the rest of it in Spain.

Grr :)

Anyway, we're sorting them out with a laptop, and are going to set up a UK ISP for when he's here, and a Spanish one for when he's there.

Any suggestions for the Spanish one? Or maybe a good UK ISP that allows you to connect to local numbers abroad.

(First person to mention AOL gets slapped with a wet kipper)

Thanks :D

Mercury are not too bad - im on with them at home - consistent connection most of the time.

Telefonica are the bigger ISP / phone company out here - support is typically bad for a large company - numerous outages during the summer months. Our work ASDL and phone systems are run by Telefonica - getting answers when our internet access goes can be a problem.

Spansurf - gah horrible - take over IE - add links to your favourites - their phone number to the top of the browser window! I never got as far as using them for access.

This is based on the Costa del Sol (Southern Spain) - some of these ISP's may be regional access only.

Scott :)

Thanks for that Scott.

As he's going to be coming back every week or so it means that we can experiment with him a bit if there are any problems.

Although maybe I should go out and help him set up....

To add to what marketing guy says, Mercury are pretty good, but they're expensive (www.mercuryinternet.com) - I think they are Costa del Sol only though.

Avoid: Terra, Spansurf, Eresmas, Jumpy, Telepolis.

www.ya.com is reasonable (though not brilliant) and cheap. The best we have found is www.ibrujula.com (but you have to search bit for the connection details.

Having said that, ADSL is fairly widely available in Spain and generally good. Don't buy it through Terra / telefonica though - go for any of the others!

we swear by wanadoo.

use it for adsl at work and home, roaming connections throughout spain and their telephone support is great.

their telephone jingle drives me mad though ;-)

ditto all that's been said about terra, telefónica, etc

Thanks for all that.

I've just found to my horror that my employee who's dealing with this client (because I was busy when he first rang up) has been asked to go over for a couple of days to help set everything up.

Life is so unfair... or maybe I could start to flex a few boss-muscles and find something he has to do here which means he can't go and.. oh, look.. I'm free for those couple of days.

I'm not that mean really ;)

I spend about 6 weeks every year on the Costa Del Sol and use Spansurf, to date with no problem considering its free.
It was easy to set up, the page was in English and so far, notwithstanding previous comments has been trouble free. Certainly no better or worse than the 3 UK ones I've used which have not been free.

Gotta second marketing_guy on that...... :)

I hear from the Costa Blanca (where I am) that Wanadoo aren't bad....plus they are spread nationally......

telefonica.com has provided me with adsl and, touch wood, working fine. I had been with terra since going on line in July 2001 - and overall I would say they are all as bad as each other here - a bit third world when it comes to telecommunications really!

rufus in alicante.

He, he, and a few other areas too (water cuts, power cuts), but one hell of a place to live.

Hey Rufus, fancy splitting a beer some day? I'm just a short drive from you in N.Alicante Province.
Gig at Desden, El Campello, tonight, midnight....

Sorry people, I've been a little busy so haven't been able to pop back to acknowledge your help.

Thanks very much for everything - we're putting the quote together now so this will be most useful.

I'm still gutted that it's not going to be me going to Spain though :(
