If you guys follow hockey, I'm sure you're as surprised as me, it's the first time since 1952 that the defending champions get sweeped in 4 straight games...... ouch......

Well, at least it's getting more and more interesting with every game.

In other ice hockey news, the Austin (Texas) Roadrunners Women's teams swept last weekend's tournament and secured first place in both divisions.

Of note: in the "B" division, a scrappy new player nicknamed "Hawkgirl" scored the first goal of the first game ... which also happened to be her first goal ever and her first game ever.

I am suprised the Wings got swept. They have been my favorite team for about 15 years or so. I would be nice to see one of the Canadian teams win this year. Maybe the Senators?

very distraught about detroit.

Ottawa will get in, Toronto maybe (they're playin with tons of heart but the injuries), Vancouver is in trouble, Edmonton could do it too but they just have to keep poppin in the goals.

Good on ya Hawkgirl ;)

Colorado store owners are a little upset about this. They're going to see a drop off in sales since there's no need for the Avalanche fans to go out and buy "Red Wings Suck" T-shirts this year. :)

Makes you wonder if the teams that developed a winning system for regular season play, now don't have the right system for playoffs. Look at Vancouver - and other top regular season teams. It was always true that a tight defence would win playoffs, rarely freewheeling offence.

The regular season games just don't require enough defensive effort. There are too many regular season games and the guys just can't play like that all year. Now that the open ice is gone, new winners emerge.

Too bad about Detroit. Guess the age finally crept up on 'em. My wife's not too pleased, but as a Avalanche and sometime Coyotes fan, I couldn't be happier.

Hawkgirl - nice job! My team won our championship last season for the first time. Gonna move up a division and see if we can make it a sweep :)

It was always true that a tight defence would win playoffs, rarely freewheeling offence.

The Devils with Brodeur in the net are a living proof of that statement, although beating the bruins was only a matter of containing Thornton's line (credit goes to Madden's line) and scoring one or two goals.

Now it's Vancouver's turn to be in trouble...... at least the Sens are out of trouble, but they better regroup because if they keep playing the way they did in the first round, it won't be a long trip for them.....

And let's not even talk about the Wild..... scary
