Is there a secure email service based in Europe

If not why not?

I am surprised the prism saga does not have more comment on WebmasterWorld.
I thought I would ask if anyone knows of a Secure email service based in Europe, preferably with a english language option and preferably free.
If not, would someone with technical nous like to go partners in providing one?
I am ready to give up my US based accounts, such as Gmail and skype and doubt that I am the only one.

The British govt is planning its own PRISM equivalent, and the rest of the EU will probably follow.

I would be very surprised if any email system was secure. However if you don't want to use American based software you could try this site
