Lucas goes to the Dark Side

Can you say the inventor of Merchandising "sold out"?

A long time ago, in a Thread far, far away [webmasterworld.com]...

...It was a period without good SciFi. Rebel commentators, writing from a hidden forum, proposed an intellectual victory over the evil Fantasy Empire. During the discussion, Rebel commentators suggested secret plans to marry Fantasy and SciFi.

Ok, I've stretched that parody thing a bit far.

But... Episode 7, 2015. Thoughts?

I'd like to speak to the droid that played the words, "Help me, Robert Iger- you're my only hope!" I think there was a malfunction.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Every episode of Star Wars, every episode, features a different character shouting that phrase. Even Senator Organa had his turn [youtube.com], at the Jedi Temple, lol. It's funny and annoying at the same time. Obi Wan, Luke, etc., they all had their turn shouting NOOOoooo!

Nothing wrong with retiring, which is what GL is doing. Star Wars was a good story but it was also a financial venture. No sellout. Just business, right?

The Avengers wasn't exactly a bad flick and that happened after Disney acquired Marvel. It could have been way more Disney-esque.

Loved the orginal SW films, thought the newer ones were decent enough. Would love to see a continuation of the series. Don't think anyone is likely to take on that project without paying serious attention to the complaints about the prequels.

Given that Lucas is 68, Ep7 might be the last SW film he touches - that, plus the combined weight of Disney / Marvel / Pixar? I think it could be pretty awesome.

Or they might hire the entire cast of Twilight for the lead roles and screw it beyond repair.

Will be fun to watch though. :)

But two things... Disney, Whaah? Maybe Marvel affectionados have a view on Disneyfication?

And... Episode 7, coming to a cinema near you in 2015. With PIXAR running the special effects. Exciting? Or, given the Prequels, yet another chance to ruin a franchise?

GL said many times post-Prequel that no new Star Wars feature would ever be made. What happened?

And do they own the rights. Will there be the opportunity to un-rewrite the canon? I mean... SOLO SHOT FIRST.

Disney also acquired Industrial Light and Magic, GL's special effects company.

Exciting?

Not so much a movie, more a trailer for the video game.

ILM were the special effects company, pioneering a huge number of techniques (not least fly-bys in SW), but surely PIXAR will be the preferred choice for Disney.

Having said that, that is one successful SFX house they have now created. Their market share must be... Googlian :p

if the new movies follow on from the return of the jedi then a lot of the old characters wont be in it, that is what might disappoint me. you cant have star wars without darth vadar.
i would rather they remake the originals

Don't bet on it. Episodes I-III managed to include supporting characters that the leads in Episode IV were clearly shown meeting for the first time. And, conversely, Episode IV had at least one character personally remembering someone that Episodes I-III made it clear she never knew. You just gamble that your readers or viewers won't remember the earlier segments. Happens all the time. ("What do you mean, I said something on the /paperknife/ page that flatly contradicts what I say on the /leafcutter/ page?")

Joe Bob Briggs says that the correct way to make a sequel is to make the exact same movie all over again.

Have you seen Mark Hamil or Carrie Fisher lately? Would you REALLY want to them in another Star Wars movie?

Then again, I guess they could play relatives of Jabba the Hutt...

Family Guy version was the best. GL should have sold out to Seth Macfarlane instead. :)

This noooooo is just on the new blue ray and I hate when they have added that. I think its great idea to sell it be cause the late 3 movies just not had this star wars feeling to it and episode 3 I can just remember light sabers all the time.

Let J.J Abrams make the movies and everything will be great.

I've heard that she's signed up for the part of Jabba. ;)
