A cold reading is "taking guesses"...
For example: He will go "What's the S connection I'm seeing here? Who in your family's name is "S" like Steve, Sam, Shirley?"
And the person will likely go "My cousins name is Stacey!" or something like that.
Think about it... Do you not have someone in your family that's name doesn't have an "S"?
What's worst of all, is that he gives people false hopes, and makes money praying off vulnerable people who really think they're talking to "passed" family members.
It's all a big scam. And he is nothing more than a scam artist.
If I judged all Brits by Dame Edna what conclusions do you imagine I would have about British men?
I don't believe in psychics myself but for the sake of intellectual curiosity I like to keep the door a little open.

No offense, but I doubt a thread in FOO is going to protect any credulous souls from it nowadays... ;)
John Edwards was on the Larry King show on CNN recently and had many "misses" and a few "lucky guesses"... The transcript of the show is a great read.
This one I'm not sure about, but I bet he reads books called "How to be a psychic" and "How to do cold readings" lol.
Ok, two thoughts actually ... if psychics are so good, why don't they just call up the folks who are thinking about calling them instead of spending ad dollars urging folks to call Miss Celo.

it has a potted history of magic/performance including psycic tricks and suggestion, and it is a very interesting read.
here's an example of magic and autosuggestion:
think of a card, any card, but not the ace of spades because it's too obvious.
