Great story... I'll never forget my shock, some 25 years ago, when I passed a phone booth on a trail in the high country of Yosemite. Now, I guess, all the amenities are expected.

That would be a crying shame. I was trekking in the Nepalese Himalayas last October and did the Everest Base Camp trek. Part of the adveture of that trip was the fact that I was so far removed from modern day conveniences. Many of the places we stayed barely had electricity, and base camp is close to being ruined as it is by litter.
I would be against this completely.

I avoided the Everest base camp trek when I was there as it was so busy. I guess now even more people will decide to do it. Does seem like a shame.
