Leap Year Bug May Have Hit Sat Nav Devices [bbc.co.uk]
TomTom has blamed a "leap year bug" for a fault which has caused some of its satellite navigation devices to stop working.

The firm said that a problem with its global positioning system firmware was causing "a limited number of models" to fail to identify their location.

Affected users are presented with a grey screen and a message saying the machine lacks a GPS signal.

How odd, eh. I would have thought we'd seen the back of this with the Millennium bug.

Just shows that programmers do not learn from previous mistakes.

The same buggy code keeps on resurfacing again and again.

So the machine says it lacks a GPS signal even when it is obviously still in contact with the satellite, interesting.

Makes you wonder if it's tracking even if you stop subscribing to the service, much like OnStar does.
