A group of scientists working on fossils from Kangaroo Island in South Australia has turned up a Cambrian predator with horror-movie specs: razor serrations in a circular mouth, claws at the front of its head, and compound eyes on stalks.

Tagged Anomalocaris (roughly “irregular shrimp”, or perhaps “abnormal shrimp”), the meter-long beauty seems to be a top predator from 500 million years ago.

For the life of me, I can't quite figure out how to make this internet related... other than it was the internet that revealed this creature. The bold is my enjoyment of shrimp... we have a lot of that here in the Gulf. :)

And too dang expensive. :(

I am sorry to say that the immediate mental picture raised by this phrase is the Creature from the Black Lagoon wearing 3-D goggles :(

I met and shook hands with the Creature From the Black Lagoon. I was a wee tyke back then, but was great fun (1955, revealing my age a bit). Ricou Browning was his name (did the underwater shots). Julie Adams, Richard Denning and Richard Carlson (a prick) were also present. There were no shrimp served that day.
