Hrum Hrum Heeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Ah the sound of a F1 car, hopefully this will be a good season (Not complaining about last one year, since i've always cheered for M Schumacher) but it was a bit boring when nobody even came close to him.

TV is booked :)

That's good for the Australian motorsport fans as word has it that the World Rally Championship may be transferred from Australia this year, possibly to Kenya, due to conflict between the Aussies and the body that controls rallying (FIA?).

Let's hope this years F1 will be more exciting - in fact I hardly wathced any last year and watched the rally championship and the British Touring car championship, which are both slower, but were both far more interesting in 10 minutes than the whole F1 season.

If the first race is no good, and as exciting as it was last year it will be the first and last F1 I watch all season.

I love F1. Here in America, people don't understand - it's not racing if you only have to turn left!

Lets hope it is not a Ferrari parade like last year....

The changes should give the non-ferrari drivers more of a chance. I'll enjoy it as long as it isn't like last years one <urg!>

Heck, we've got some races that last only a quarter of a mile (I don't know what that is in km) and there are no turns at all. How 'bout that!

Lazerzubb just hope the season isn’t full of the reckless driving seen by you, Receptional and I at eSpotting's Go-Karting day.

Remember that guy’s wheel falling off on the last lap? :)

I have high hopes for Jenson Button in his BAR, they'll probably be proved unfounded, as Villeneuve has never managed to do anything special in that car.

Yepp we kicked ass big time, only problem was i couldn't move the next day after a little "incident" :)

I didn't kick so much ass, but let's not talk about that :-)

(BTW the F1 drivers have had competitions on that track :) )

I can hear the planes doing air displays at the track right now (and the cars when they warm up.)

I will also be able to hear the cars from several suburbs away when they race on the weekend.

Thanks.

Yup I'm in the next suburb and can hear the cars brilliantly. :)

At this stage the forecast is for rain on Sun which should be interesting.

And who's the kind of driving in the rain :)
Yeah Mr Schumacher wins again ;)

F1 hasn't been quite the same since the death of Ayrton Senna but schumacher does a great job of setting the standard.

I think this will be another year for ferrari although I would love to see williams getting back in the lime light. Great team , great develpers just not got a decent engine deal, althogh the BMW engine is looking a lot better after the recent tests.

Definitely more McLaren fans the merrier and I think Räikkönen will have an even better year this year than last.

Always enjoyed watching Montoya, but he hasn't got the car I don't think, McLaren's testing speed has got Schumacher a little worried and hopefully Räikkönen will give him a challenge, he's one for the future anyway.

FANTASTIC FACTS

New to mclaren.com this year, we bring a collection of fantastic facts you may or may not know about each Grand Prix host country. We begin with Australia, setting for the season opener, the Australian Grand Prix.

1. Did you know that in Australia, pancakes are served at dinner rather than breakfast?

2. Did you know that the native hunters and food gatherers of Australia are called aborigines, though the word refers to the first inhabitants of any region? Aborigines have lived in Australia for 40,000 years. Today most of them are of mixed descent. There are about 50,000 full-blooded aborigines left.

3. Also, were you aware that Aborigines were the first people to discover Australia? They may have walked or sailed there from Asia over 60,000 years age. They arrived at a time when the northern parts of Australia had a hot humid tropical climate much like that of Asia today. Europeans arrived only 227 years ago.

4. A kangaroo can hop at a speed of up to 40mph / 60 km/h. It can also leap over objects up to 3m / 10ft in height.

5. Did you know that the Sydney Opera House took 14 years to build? It was completed in 1973 and cost $102,000,000. Danish architect Jorn Utzon designed the building. The steel used for the bridge weighs over 52,800 tonnes, and it took 30,000 litres of paint to paint the bridge from end to end.

6. The Great Barrier Reef stretches along the East Coast of Queensland and is the world's largest coral reef. It is over 2000km / 1250 miles long, but does not consist of a single reef. It is in fact made up of over 2900 individual reefs, which are located very closely to each other.

7. The Australian Grand Prix takes place in Melbourne’s Albert Park. Evidence indicates that Aborigines inhabited Albert Park and its surroundings about 40,000 years ago. Albert Park was once a series of swamps and lagoons that provided edible vegetation. In 1864 the Park was made public, and named Albert Park in honour of Queen Victoria’s devoted companion, Prince Albert.

8. Did you know that ‘strine’ is a form of Australian slang. Most commonly used words include barbie (barbecue), dunny (toilet), ute (pick-up) and one you may or may not know jumbuck (sheep)!

9. Finally did you know that apparently the Australians’ favourite song is Waltzing Matilda?

:)

I have to say that I didn't know much about the rule changes but it seems like the new qualifying process will mix up the cars a bit more on the grid and make for more interesting racing with more overtaking. Nice to see the BARs, Button in particular up there so far but could all change tomorrow...

Yes the new qualifying of only having one lap per driver should throw up some interesting grid positions! :)

Was interesting, the drivers were definitely not where you would expect them all.

But surprisingly, it was a Ferrari front row AGAIN.

It won't be the same without Eddie Irvine, so I'll have to follow JP Montoya this year.

The good thing about the Australian GP is that here in Thailand it's 10am when the race kicks off and my wife's still in bed. 48 inches of GP all to myself.
