A very good friend of mine that owns a hardware store recently went through the flooding that effected Northeastern Pennsylvania. I was helping him out selling off the flood damaged goods. Some of the product was related to my website and I got into a conversation with the customer concerning the product.... He casually mentions my site as great reference for knowledge. :)

I don't know how many of you experienced this but what a great feeling.

Anyone else ever have someone mention a site you own?

Been mentioned on discussion boards but never heard it mentioned in real life by somebody who didn't know it was mine.

No, unlikely to happen. But I've had people in the small rural town I live in contact me off the web, not realizing that I'm one street over from them.

And I had a local competitor - who's backyard backed on to mine - scrape my content. And then deny that it was my content.

SOmeone mentioning it in conversation would be cool though - then you've got yourself some market penetration.

My mother in law was overseas a few years back and someone asked her if she had heard of my site. My mother in law was my first ever member and the reason I started the site. I think she was quite impressed.

Yup.

My oldest site gets mentions online and offline.

Then they see the logo on my shirt and anonymity is all over ;)

added: it's also been listed in magazines and paperback books too!

I once came into a hotel and while checking in I noticed someone in the back sitting on a computer, ordering from my website.
The flow of money. Out of my bank-account and in again...

I visited a communication-based tourist attraction once that has a free-use "internet center" .
I set all the browsers, on all the machines I could get at, to default to my home page ... got great traffic for a couple of weeks.. guess someone noticed in the end
On topic - often people mention my site - I get a warm feeling inside.

Yea, a few times.

The first time, I just took the recommendation and kept quiet, as I never in real life wanted to associate myself with the website at the time.

The second time, in a large gathering someone mentioned it, and briefly mentioned I created it ... and he took it as some sort of joke, and he kept talking about it ... and I let him do the talking, never stressed the site was mine.

It is fun to put faces to the virtual visitors to the website once in a while.
