Why do Americans identify a day in such a strange way?

Well, Americans may think other methods are strange ;)

It's like metric vs standard measurements, we're used to it. Things will always be slightly different around the globe. I sure don't want to start using metric measures now that I have been using standard for thirty years.

Habits account for a lot. Somebody might be in the habit of identifying the time of the day in the way that my subtitle suggests: hour-second-minute. Such people might find other methods strange.

But actually I was looking for a historical explanation. I would do that too if a whole people counted like this: 2, 1, 3....
