Yow! Really bad news, but wasn't entirely unexpected at some point in the not too distant future. Apple will never be same again...
BBC website here in the UK got the story online 20 minutes after the first mention on Twitter - but only a couple of dozen words for now. A year ago it would have taken several hours or more to appear.

I purchased my first Mac [LCII] in 1991, we had two little girls, so we purchased Reader Rabbit and other educational programs for them.
Instead of sitting in front of the tube all the time, they learned reading, math and science while being entertained.
