Ten Year-Old Hacker Finds Security Flaw In Mobile Games [bbc.co.uk]
A novel class of security problems have been found lurking in many mobile games by a ten-year old hacker.

Going by the handle CyFi, the hacker presented her findings at the DefCon hacker conference held in Las Vegas.

She found that advancing the clock on a tablet or phone can, in many games, open a loophole that can be exploited.

CyFi discovered the bug after getting bored with the pace of farming games and seeking ways to speed them up.

The word hacker is thrown around so much these days that it's lost all meaning.

Reminds me of someone who had their PC clock wound back every 29 days so their flawed '30 day trial' of some software would never end...

As pointed out in the comments to article covering this on the register yesterday....she didn't "find anything".. this has been done for years both to games and software...and the precise "exploit" on the particular game ..is the first result on google when you search for how to grow the corn faster ..and has been for a long time ..she merely searched how to do it ( make the corn grow faster in smurfs )..and did what she found ..how she got into defcon as the originator / discoverer of what is publicly available common knowledge as a technique on this particular game is amazing..unless of course her parents "know someone" at defcon..

Advancing a clock on a phone or a tablet won't open any "security holes" that are going to let anyone do anything except cheat on the game or use software outside of its trial period ..except in the feverish misinformed mind of what passes for a tech reporter at the BBC..

ps.. it is ( and has been almost since the game was released ) known to players of the smurfs game ( the one she claims to have hacked all by herself) as the time changing cheat...

Official comment from the game's publisher Capcom back in Dec 2010 when it was already widely known and used ..and in response to its use by someone well before CyFi.."discovered" it.
