Very interested in what you all think. Is SEO/SEM/et all
an IT "safe harbor" for USA based folks?

There indeed have been lots of large corporate type IT jobs
going offshore now for several years. Very likely to continue.

By large corporate type jobs I mean large custom systems
big companies develop and maintain over time. The kind of
places lots of MIS graduates got jobs at and made careers
putting in their 40 hours a week as programmer/analyst.

These jobs are still around of course. But they do seem
to not only be declining in the USA, but the salaries and
contractor rates for senior folks in the USA seem to be on
the decline as well due to non USA wage rates -- and the
increasing ease of shipping the work offshore.

At least that's what folks on various
IT consulting and contractor boards frequented by USA folks
say. Besides the pickings being slim due to the economy,
they report work going overseas -- and what remains in the
USA is often offered at lower rates than what they have made
in the past.

What I'm wondering is how folks here think it will or will
not affect SEO, SEM, jobs running commercial sites and
other type work many here do in the USA.

Do you think your familiarity with US culture will keep you
employed? Or do you think the trend towards a more
virtual company where most task are outsourced to lower
cost non USA countries will decimate the kinds of jobs
lots of folks here hold -- at least those located in the USA?

I know lots of folks here are one person operations. But
what do you think the trends are for those doing the kind
of work folks here specialize in for an employer?

Again, very interested in what you all think. Is SEO/SEM/et all
an IT "safe harbor" for USA based folks?

Thanks for sharing,

Louis
