Spanish Police Arrest Anonymous Hacktivists Over Sony Hack [news.cnet.com]

Authorities in Spain say they have arrested three suspected members of the "hacktivist" collective known as Anonymous, alleging that the trio took part in the now notorious hack of Sony's PlayStation Network as well as other infiltrations of governments, banks, and other businesses.

According to a translation of a press release from Spain's national police, it also seized a server used in the attacks from the home of one of the suspects. The suspects were picked up in the cities of Barcelona, Valencia, and Almeria. Police claim they represent the organization's leadership in Spain and that they directed attacks against the country's central election board, the Catalan police and the UGT, a major Spanish trade union.

It seems that there was a retaliation.

Spanish police website hit by Anonymous hackers [bbc.co.uk]
The website of Spain's national police force has been briefly knocked offline by hacker collective Anonymous.

The attack on the site was carried out in retaliation for the arrest of three Spanish men the police claimed were 'core' members of the group.

The hackers managed to keep www.policia.es offline for about an hour from 2130 GMT on 12 June.

Spanish authorities would not confirm that Anonymous was behind the attack, saying only that the site was offline.

Police claim they represent the organization's leadership in Spain and that they directed attacks against the country's central election board, the Catalan police and the UGT, a major Spanish trade union.

So they attack basically everyone who provides freedom, democracy, and the ability to earn a living. The gov't is right to take a hard line with these people. Their methods are indistinguishable from dictatorships'.
