In the last three weeks an extraordinary number of "links" which are not links, "referers" which are not referers (exceeding 600) which slander a venerable author by coup of use because I have a tribute site in his honor in the name of the dangers of "global warming", "climate change", and resulting piling on of all those politics (which is bogus since the planet is not in danger of either) and there's not a lot I can do about it... though am serving 403s in the meantime.

Dang it, scrapers are bad enough, but to get side-swiped by politics, too?

Arrrggghhhh! Will the Madness Never Cease?

Merely a rant against bad behavior. Pet peeve. In reality there's no true harm or foul, but I don't like getting peed on.

Curiosity: Hold up your hand if you remember the Global Cooling madness (for the same political reasons) which occurred during the 1960s and early 1970s? And I'm not referring to "nuclear winter" which was anti-nuclear weapons... different social scare which politicians flagellate to get elected.

Global Cooling madness

Opposed to the Global Warming madness?

Actually, real science leans towards cooling, ice ages are cyclical and global warming actually causes global cooling.

Case in point, we've been in 'global warming' since the last ice age.

You should use the (DMCA) Digital Millennium Cooling Act against those scrapers ;)

Yeah, but we didn't have Al Gore back then to put a stop to it!

What gives me chuckles is these "dudes" are linking/referring/log spamming a page regarding a FICTIONAL PLANET and FICTIONAL ECOLOGY...

Best I can figure is they are jumping on the Disney/Pixar Mars movie for next March as a "see, this is what the world will be" and by hook or crook lay it on the doorstep of a fellow who wrote a bit of SF fluff back in 1911... as PROOF. That's the politics side. The link/referer/log spam is the bit which ticks me off.

@icrediBILL ... might have saved me some research time on broken google and basic proficient bing to discover that exercising anything under the Digital Millennium Cooling Act requires filing on the sixth Tuesday of any month. Those cases will be heard 13,221 years from now (have to include sidereal discrepancies and momentum loss). Meanwhile, I've engaged Whee Hookem and Fairly at one cent at retainer growth rate of .01% apr guaranteed to take the case. They have never lost so I do expect a favorable outcome.

Check back for results.

Man made Global warming was invented by Margaret Thatcher when she asked her "Scientific advisers" for ammunition to use against the National Union of Mineworkers(Channel 4 documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle" 2007). It has since grown into an multi-million dollar industry which is self sustaining and where man made global warming is accepted as an article of faith. Opposing views are ridiculed and treated as heresy.

Nope... goes further back. Current version came to a head at Kyoto in 1997, which has fueled all to current under the IPCC, but before that was global cooling, before that was deforestation, before that was erosion, before that, as far back as 1799 was using the man-made destruction of environment for political reasons.

There was a period of time that cultivating anything larger than 40 acres was destroying the planet...

And all I cultivated was ONE PAGE and all these scumbags have piled on (eating up my bandwidth to no display initially) until observed and serving a much smaller 403.

There is a great deal of humor intended in this FOO... but also a warning to take a look at logs a bit more closely if you have a product or written an article that MIGHT be co-opted for political purposes. Sadly, these have come from a multiple of sources, and very quickly but without rhyme or reason, else I might have posted this heads up at Search Engine Identification...

Meanwhile, we gotta keep the politics down though I think Bill and Lawman will allow one or two bites if we don't get off the wall... and I wouldn't like that either... off the wall comments, that is.

It's obvious we do impact the weather because there was a few degrees of noticeable global cooling when we stopped all flights after 9/11. Just the artificial layer of clouds the jets provide is actually enough to up the temp worldwide a couple of degrees.

Never said we weren't impacting the climate, but I'm voting ice age in the end ;)

Forget politics, one big volcano does more for climate impact than all the cars in a year. Just wait until something big happens like Krakatoa again and puts the planet under what we would now call a 'nuclear winter'

True! (New eruption in Iceland at the moment... will queer "heat signals" for a year or so)

But why pick on ME? What did I do besides have a bit of hobby passion fun for a pulp author regarding a dying planet (fictional!).

Oddly enough, I got a single (hopefully the last!) email from a climate fan enraged that my "article" had nothing to do with EARTH'S CLIMATE CHANGE. I have a folder called THIRTEEN in my email program. This is where the humorous, interesting, off-the-wall, really-strange-stuff, is stored. About once a year I take a look and have fond memories of either outrage, chuckles or absolute confusion.

Further research into these recent hits in my logs indicates SOMEBODY ELSE'S logs have been hit and a half-dozen or so "climate" sites have linked to me in WHITE TEXT ON WHITE BACKGROUND (blackhat) and those are the ones eating 403s at the moment. That said, is that the better response or changing the filename to something else and letting them get a 404? That is a most serious question. Either way, I'm not serving the article to them.

See, I'm well versed in climatology opposed to your casual slogan chanting nitwit like Mr. Gore

Bill... shame on you! You want to rev me up! Well, that's not going to happen. Meanwhile, I am so pleased to report that the Maldives Council did NOT have to wear scuba gear to conduct government business as they did back in 2009. To show that I'm an equal opportunity abuser I'll even include the HuffPost version without further comment: [huffingtonpost.com...]

Wonder if they killed some Tuna or Barracuda? Serious on the last one, anyone besides me ever eat barracuda? (Off St. Vincent, Virgin Islands). Caught it. Hacked off its head. Gutted. Fileted. Baked, broiled, stewed for 31 people. Whoo hoo!
