This is very important. He wrote the blog posts in the US, and subsequently visited Thailand. I think the Alan Shadrake case in Singapore is similar.

The importance of cases like this is that countries are extending their laws limiting freedom of speech globally. The US constitution (like many countries) protects freedom of speech, but you are still subject to the freedom of speech limiting laws in ANY country you may subsequently visit.
