The assistant surgeon general, Ali Khan, has posted advice on the website of the government's health and safety agency, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, on how to prepare for Night of the Living Dead popping up in the backyard.

"There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for," Khan writes under the heading Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse. "Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That's right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you'll be happy you read this."

People with no brains presumably have nothing to worry about.

In USA, Zombie is a code-word (sometimes, not always) for "Sheeple."

Not my words. But when certain groups talk about "Zombies" and "Zombie hordes" - they're talking about the unprepared.

While Freedom's description of zombies is accurate in survival circles, it is not accurate as related to the CDC blog post referenced in the article.

The blog post's use of the term seems to be be based on either sensationalism, or perhaps may be an attempt at humor. It might even be dumbing down for the masses. Anyway you slice it, it is entirely inappropriate spewing of crap from the federal government. I'd advocate the author and/or agency being the first to cut loose if there is a government shutdown over debt. Good riddance.

Sheeple

I don't think there is any ambiguity here. The document apparently says:

"When zombies are hungry they won't stop until they get food (ie brains), which means you need to get out of town fast! Plan where you would go and multiple routes you would take ahead of time so that the flesh eaters don't have a chance!"

Sheeple may be as dull and predictable as zombies, but the similarity probably ends there.

Duck and cover.

Did they even bother to read the CDC article? Did it go right over their heads? Does that mean the Guardian has nothing to worry about?

Yes, the CDC found a creative and entertaining way of getting the public to remember they exist. Good for them.

I was in the book store recently and was overwhelmed with all the real Zombie books and guides. It's been kind of a cultural mania/phase since the economic crisis.

It'll pass and the USA will go back to be fascinating by Vampires - again. Or something equally obnoxious.

This is actually a brilliant way to get their point across.

Where exactly will the prez be launching from to get to his "safe" space station anyway? At least we can wave the "important" people off before it happens? Come to think of it we haven't heard much about what's being built on the dark side of the moon lately...

The thing that gets me about zombie movies is why people just don't run. I mean look at them. Shuffling along all broken boned at .01 miles per hour. Why can't you just run?

The later movies with zombies seem to have figured this out and they are umm . . . a little more motivated with an ability to run at blazing speed . . . at which point they are not really zombies any more, they are possessed monsters. The whole thing kinda falls flat.

And for cryin' out loud, if you're stupid enough to get trapped in a busted a** farmhouse, can you have the sense to stay away from the G... D... windows? Ah. Guess not. You deserve to get eaten. LOL
