Wanted: advice on buying a Multimedia PC in the USA - it has to be great at games, video editing and have a nice size monitor too!

I have a small-ish budget of $1,000 and require a new PC pre-loaded with Windows XP with at least 512mb of memory and have a nice 19inch screen too. A beefy graphics card is also needed (NV30?) so those games can fly (Okay, so GTA3 can fly!)

In the UK, I've always used overclockers.co.uk for my computer systems - but are there any companies in the USA (especially near North Carolina!) that produce good quality systems with excellent support at superb prices?

I'm at a total loss as to what companies are good or bad in the USA. I would prefer to avoid Dell and Gateway for now...

Because of forum rules if you can post any addresses without the [www....] that would be great. Thanks for any help!

For that price, for what you want, you'd more than likely have to build your own. Find the cheapest parts you can from all over the net, pull them together and build a nice box. I plan to spend about your budget to make a gaming system, and all I plan to buy is MB, processor, a small HD, memory, and a video card. Gonna recycle parts, monitor, case and such, and I still think it's gonna come out around 1k.

Hi,

I agree, building it is the only way to come under budget and still make it beefy for gaming. Heck a NV30 is almost 1/2 of your budget.

Try w3.pricewatch.com (broken URL) as a good parts board but make sure to check the vendors reputation.

Thanks everyone - problem is, it needs to be ready built too. Heck, I don't ask for much do I? ;)

You'd be getting a good deal to get just the computer w/o moniter for 1k if you build it. You'll (probably) never find one for that price prebuilt, without the monitor even. Building one isn't that hard, just a matter of screwing stuff in and putting stuff in the right place. Unless there is some reason you absolutely cannot do this, like having no arms or something, you're going to need to go this route. Or find a spoiled kid who doesn't want his new PC and sells it for cheap...

It's not the difficulty factor - it's time as I'm only visiting the states for a short period.

Anyway - thanks for the tips everyone!
