A few years ago a company I was working for had a booth at a trade show in NY's Javitz Center and we stayed in some hotel to remain nameless about a mile away. Anyone doing much attendance at trade shows with a lot of stuff to lug around gets to the point they make arrangements and ship things ahead, which is what we did with a case of printed product slicks, about $1500 worth. Show up at the hotel and yes, the product fliers had arrived, they were logged in, and now they were gone.
Gone? as in misplaced?
Oh no. Gone. as in stolen.
Being seasoned trade show travelers we had all brought a small pile of fliers with us just in case something like this happened, you get more selective of who you hand them to, hot leads only, not just anyone.
We placed a call back to the printer that was 3,000 miles away to print yet another box ASAP and ship them FedEx overnight.
Next morning the bell desk buzzes the room and tells us our package has arrived and is waiting for us downstairs.
15 minutes later, standing at the bell desk, they show it was logged in as delivered but can't find it, it's gone.
Gone? as in misplaced?
Oh no. Gone. as in stolen.
Gone in 15 minutes!
We even figure out who the most likely suspect was as one of the bell desk employees has just left for the day and it appears the box from the software company went home with him.
Now he has 2 boxes of fliers of no value to him.
The hotel reimbursed us the cost of the fliers.
